Diamond in Subnautica 2 — honest status, and the materials that cover the same role.

Diamond appears in the in-game database with a placeholder icon, but no Diamond nodes have been placed in the Early Access world yet. Most "where to find Diamond" searches actually want what Diamond did in Subnautica 1: enable cutting, advanced electronics, or deeper tools. Those roles in SN2 belong to other materials right now.

What "Diamond" means in SN2 right now

The Subnautica 2 item database lists Diamond as a Raw Material, but no spawn locations have been placed in the EA build. The icon you see in some wikis is a placeholder for a planned addition. If a future patch adds Diamond it will almost certainly live in the deeper Karakorum or in biomes that have not yet been opened (the "Open Ocean — unexplored" map edge).

This is not unusual for an Early Access game: the developers ship the database entry before they ship the world placement, so dataminers and the wiki pick it up immediately and search interest follows.

What you probably came here for

Three different crafting needs from Subnautica 1 sent players hunting for Diamond. In Subnautica 2 EA, here's where each need lives now:

Cutting / scanning hard materials (was Stasis + Diamond): the Repair Tool opens sealed wreck doors after you scan them. The Strong Acid recipe handles material dissolution.
Enameled Glass (was Glass + Diamond in SN1): now made from Glass + Creature Enamel. Required for the Bioscanner, Feedback Resonator, Strike Armor and Tadpole Mk.1 chassis chain.
Advanced electronics (was Computer Chip → Diamond chain): now built on Conduit Crystal from Karakorum. See Where to find Gold for the trip that also picks up Conduit Crystal.
Deep-water gear: covered by the Atacamite + Celestine + Troilite chain. See the Tadpole modules guide.

What we'll update when Diamond is added

If a patch places Diamond nodes in the world, this page will be updated within 24 hours with the confirmed biomes, depth ranges, and a marker added to the interactive map. Bookmark this page or check the trending searches board for the live update.

Beware of "Diamond location" videos older than this Early Access launch — those are from Subnautica 1 or Below Zero and the coordinates do not translate.
