Strong Acid is a mid-game crafting bottleneck. Most players hit it when they try to build the Fiber Mesh (for the Rebreather) or any high-tier battery. The fastest recipe in Early Access is the Necrolei Cyst path — 2 cysts harvested from Stilt Orbs convert to 1 Strong Acid at the Fabricator.
Subnautica 2 has two distinct acid resources used in completely different recipes:
Acidic Raion Pouches spawn at two fixed locations inside a cave roughly 30m east of your Lifepod. Look for purple brain-shaped plants (called Acid Raion). Harvest with the Survival Multitool.
Mild Acid recipe (Fabricator): Acidic Raion Pouch ×2 + Copper Ore ×1. Alt at Processor: Acidic Raion Pouch ×2, or Pent Flora ×2.
Location: ~300m north of your Lifepod, near the Old Habitat. The Old Habitat is the same site the main story "black box" quest leads you to, so you'll often discover Stilt Orbs while completing that beat.
What to look for: small green bulbed plants with blue flowers growing among green and pink coral. Each Stilt Orb breaks with one Survival Multitool hit and drops one Necrolei Cyst. Multiple Stilt Orbs cluster in this area — it's a reliable farm.
Primary recipe: Necrolei Cyst ×2 → Strong Acid ×1 (Fabricator).
Alternate recipe (mid-late game): Sulfur + Gold → Strong Acid (Fabricator). Faster mass-production once available. But Gold requires the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to access the lava-vent biome safely. Use the Necrolei chain until Heat Tolerance is unlocked via the NW Angel Comb (Sonic Resonator on Bloom Cankers).
East cave → harvest Acidic Raion Pouches → craft Mild Acid → 300m north → farm Necrolei Cysts from Stilt Orbs → craft Strong Acid at Fabricator → craft Fiber Mesh first (it unlocks the path to the Rebreather, which is the next big quality-of-life upgrade).
