Magnetite in Subnautica 2 — the honest answer and what to use instead.

Magnetite was a Subnautica 1 material used for Computer Chips, the Cyclops, the Mod Station and various Below Zero recipes. It is not in Subnautica 2 Early Access. The roles it played have been split across three SN2 materials: Atacamite, Troilite, and Conduit Crystal.

Why people search "Subnautica 2 Magnetite"

If you played Subnautica 1 or Below Zero, Magnetite is muscle memory. The game taught you that any upgrade station, advanced battery, or computer chip wanted Magnetite. So when you start SN2 and look for the same node, search engines auto-complete the question.

In SN2 the developers re-designed the resource tree. The "magnetic-looking late-game rock" idea is gone; in its place you get a small set of named alien materials, each tied to a specific biome or recipe chain.

What replaces Magnetite, recipe by recipe

Computer Chip → System Chip (SN2): Wiring Kit + Quartz. Both surface materials.
Advanced Wiring Kit: needs Gold + Sulfur. Karakorum trip.
Mod Station (now Modification Station): Titanium + Celestine + Copper. Celestine sits in Karakorum.
Cyclops / late-game vehicle equivalent: the Tadpole with Mk.1/Mk.2 Depth Module and Haul Chassis. Built from Plasteel Ingot + Conduit Crystal chain.
Heat resistance gear: Heat Resistance Chip = Powdered Shell + Advanced Wiring Kit + Sulfur + Germanium Ingot.

Will Magnetite ever come back?

The SN2 database does not currently include a Magnetite placeholder, unlike Diamond and Nickel which both have planned database entries. That suggests Unknown Worlds intentionally retired the material in favor of the alien-material naming. We do not expect Magnetite to reappear.

Old SN1 location videos for Magnetite are not transferable to SN2. The biomes, depth ranges, and even the game's coordinate system are different.
