Where to find Silver Ore in Subnautica 2 — three biomes ranked by safety vs yield.

Silver is the gating ore for the Standard Air Tank, Advanced Battery, and Tadpole Dock — three of the most-needed unlocks in your first 8 hours. It appears in three distinct biomes: the North Cave System (safest), the Coral Spires (central scatter), and the Hydrothermal Vents (best yield but dangerous).

The three Silver biomes

North Cave System (200-400m, recommended for first farm): Swim north from your Lifepod and descend into the mid-size cave network. Silver veins appear on cave walls and floors. Look for clusters of orange Pent Plants — Silver commonly spawns near them. This is your safest early-game Silver source, but bring a backup air tank for the cave dives.

Coral Spires (central map): The tall coral formations in the central map zone contain numerous hidden cavities. Silver appears in smaller scattered veins — check crevices and overhangs carefully as you swim through. Lower density than caves, but you can pair with Quartz pickups on the same swim.

Eastern Hydrothermal Vent biome (~200m, dangerous): ~200m east of your Lifepod, this biome contains larger Silver nodes with significantly better yield per run. Hazard: thermal plumes and aggressive creatures. Bring thermal protection gear (Heat Tolerance Adaptation or Heat Resistance Chip) before venturing here.

Large nodes need the Sonic Resonator

Some Silver deposits in deeper zones appear as oversized nodes that can't be mined with the Survival Multitool. You'll need to unlock and craft the Sonic Resonator (2 Lead + Basic Battery + 2 Titanium Ingot + Wiring Kit) to shatter them. Once you have the Resonator, prioritise returning to the vent and cave Silver — yields can triple per node.

Processor — where to smelt

The Processor in Subnautica 2 has two forms:

Fixed Processor in the SW wreck (~275m southwest of Lifepod): Inside a shipwreck. Look for the Processor terminal inside the hull. Use this for your first Silver Ingot conversions before you build your own.
Build your own (Habitat Builder): Titanium Alloy ×2 + Mild Acid ×1 + Copper Wire ×1. Best placed at a Camp One outpost or wherever you do bulk ore farming.

Smelting recipe: 3 Silver Ore → 1 Silver Ingot at the Processor. Most Ingot-consuming recipes need 1-2 Silver Ingot, so mine in batches of 9+ ore to come home with 3+ Ingots.

What Silver crafts in Subnautica 2

Standard Air Tank — Titanium ×2 + Silver Ore ×2 + Rubber ×1. Essential early O₂ extension.
Advanced BatterySilver Ingot ×1 + Conduit Crystal + Strong Acid. Mid/late-game tool power source.
Tadpole Dock — Titanium Ingot ×2 + Silver Ingot ×1 + Copper Wire ×2. Submarine docking station (auto-recharges Power Cell).
Wiring KitSilver Ore ×1 + Copper Wire ×1. Required for Repair Tool, Habitat Builder, and many other tools.

Farming tips

Start with the North Cave System — safest early route with reliable spawns
Always carry extra oxygen tanks before diving into deep caves (bring an Air Bladder for fast ascents)
Once you have the Sonic Resonator, the Hydrothermal Vent zone becomes the most efficient mid-game farm
Mine in batches of 9+ ore per trip to smelt 3 Ingots and cover multiple recipes at once
Set up a small relay base near the SW wreck Processor to halve smelting trip time
Pro tip: Pent Plants near Silver veins are an excellent secondary harvest — they process into Mild Acid or Biofuel Block. Always grab a few while you're at the cave.
